What’s Writ Small?

Welcome to the little corner of the Internet where kids’ media is taken seriously, even when it’s wacky.

I have two kids — a 1-year-old and a 4-year-old — and I spend a LOT of time thinking about how to find the best books, shows, movies, games, songs, etc. for them. I’m talking about the stuff that lets their mind wander without totally lobotomizing them. The stuff that transports them somewhere else even when there isn’t a tidy lesson to be found at the end of the journey. The stuff that prompts us to feel awe, gratitude, and joy whether we’re adults or kids.

If you hit subscribe, you’ll get a weekly essay about a discrete piece of kids media in your inbox. It’ll be part arts criticism, part dadblog, and part roundup of what the Writ Small community is consuming. I’m hoping this can be a switchboard for all the great media adults are sharing with kids, and that we can create a place where “Bluey” receives the same critical analysis as Picasso’s Blue Period. (But, like, in a way less pretentious way.)

I’m excited to chat about everything you’re reading, watching, listening to, and playing. And I’m hoping my own thoughts help lead you to some new favorites.
